A national leader of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign before the 2027 general elections, citing what he described as a worsening security situation in the country.

Baba-Ahmed, a former aide to the President, said Tinubu had failed to adequately address rising insecurity and protect the lives and property of Nigerians.

He made the remarks on Thursday, where he urged Nigerians to reject the President at the next election.

“It’s clear Tinubu has no handle on the escalating menace.

Everything that needed to be said by the media, National Assembly, and civil society has been said, but Tinubu and his supporters believe that this is a problem that we can live with,” he said.

He added that insecurity had spread across the country, making communities and schools increasingly vulnerable.

“In a civilized society, Tinubu’s record on insecurity should have cost him his seat a long time ago.

It’s not too late to say that the President should resign,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed maintained that his call was not politically motivated, insisting it was based on governance concerns rather than partisanship.

“Do we need to wait until more children are abducted and the country is overrun by criminality?

The position that Tinubu should resign is not partisan or confrontational,” he said.

He argued that a president’s primary responsibility is to protect citizens and their means of livelihood, adding that, in his view, the current administration had failed in that duty.

“Sir, you cannot run this country, so please step down. It’s not a party thing, it’s not a confrontational thing, but the right thing to do,” he added.

“President Tinubu has no handle on the escalating violence. Everything that needed to be said by the media and civil society — except, of course, the national assembly — has been said. Tinubu himself and his tiny circle of supporters appear to believe that this is a problem that… pic.twitter.com/5WNAUQjhdp
