The Lagos State Government has sealed off an i-Fitness Gym facility located around the Jakande Roundabout area of Lekki Peninsula in Eti-Osa Local Government Area over alleged environmental violations.
The enforcement action was carried out by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), which accused the fitness centre of discharging untreated sewage into public drainage channels.
According to the agency, investigations revealed that the facility allegedly channelled raw sewage directly into public drains, an act it described as a public nuisance and a serious environmental hazard.
The LSWMO stated that the practice poses significant risks to public health, environmental safety, and the overall sanitation of the area, adding that it contravenes existing wastewater management and environmental protection regulations in Lagos State.
The agency said the closure forms part of ongoing efforts by the state government to enforce compliance with environmental laws and promote responsible wastewater disposal practices among businesses and residents.
Officials stressed that enforcement measures would continue against individuals and organisations found violating environmental regulations, warning that such actions threaten public wellbeing and the sustainability of urban infrastructure.
The government reiterated its commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment while urging residents and business operators to comply with all wastewater management requirements to avoid sanctions.
