The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by an additional two weeks to enable more eligible Nigerians to register ahead of future elections.
The commission announced the extension in a statement issued on Friday by the Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna.
According to the statement, the decision followed a review of the nationwide registration exercise and consultations with INEC state offices, political parties, civil society organisations (CSOs) and other key stakeholders.
Haruna said the exercise, which was originally scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, will now continue until July 24, giving eligible citizens who are yet to register another opportunity to be captured in the national voters’ register.
INEC resumed the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise in January 2026 after concluding the first phase on December 10, 2025.
The electoral body had earlier launched online pre-registration on August 18, 2025, before commencing physical registration at designated centres across the country on August 25, 2025.
The commission urged eligible Nigerians who have yet to register or who wish to update their voter information to take advantage of the extension, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring an inclusive and credible voter registration process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
