The Presidency has accused the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, of cultivating what it described as a movement of “political extremists,” alleging that he has failed to take responsibility for the actions of some of his supporters.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, made the remarks while responding to questions about criticisms directed at the Presidency by Obi’s supporters.
Bwala dismissed suggestions that the Presidency was overly focused on the former Anambra State governor, insisting that his responses were usually prompted by comments made by Obi’s supporters and subsequent requests from the media.
“Every time, his people are the first to talk, the media houses will ask us to react.
But the narrative peddled by the media is as if we wake up from sleep and we are looking for Peter Obi,” he said.
He further argued that Obi does not constitute a political challenge to President Bola Tinubu.
“Obi is inconsequential. Peter Obi is not a match for Asiwaju.
All the governors that have governed Lagos have all done better than Peter Obi. So, Peter Obi is not a match,” Bwala stated.
Despite downplaying Obi’s political influence, the presidential aide alleged that the former Anambra governor had introduced what he described as a dangerous trend into Nigeria’s political landscape through the conduct of some of his supporters.
Bwala, however, did not provide specific examples to support the allegation during his remarks.
Peter Obi had not publicly responded to the claims as of the time this report was filed.
