The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says the newly renovated Hajj Terminal at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, now has the capacity to process between 8,500 and 10,000 passengers during the annual Hajj pilgrimage.

FAAN Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, disclosed this on Wednesday during an inspection of the upgraded facility alongside the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.

Kuku said the terminal had deteriorated over the years and no longer provided a satisfactory experience for pilgrims, making its renovation necessary to improve passenger comfort and operational efficiency.

Speaking during the inspection, Keyamo said the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to revitalising aviation infrastructure across the country.

According to the minister, the upgraded terminal is expected to provide Nigerian pilgrims with a smoother and more efficient travel experience during the Hajj season.

He noted that the redevelopment is part of a broader programme that includes the ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos airport, the resurfacing of the Kano airport runway and other aviation infrastructure projects nationwide.

Keyamo said similar upgrades would be carried out at Hajj terminals in other parts of the country, adding that work would continue in Kano and other states as part of efforts to modernise airport facilities.

The minister expressed satisfaction with the quality of work at the renovated terminal, highlighting improvements such as upgraded screening facilities, prayer rooms, a VIP section and enhanced passenger boarding areas.

He added that the improvements demonstrate the Federal Government’s commitment to upgrading airport infrastructure while ensuring prudent management of public resources.

Also speaking, Chairman of the FAAN Board,  Abdullahi Ganduje, commended the renovation, describing it as another milestone in the ongoing efforts to modernise Nigeria’s aviation sector and improve services for air travellers.
