The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has launched a new online Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) system that allows eligible Nigerians to begin and complete their voter registration process from the comfort of their homes using a smartphone.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Lagos State, Prof. Ayobami Salami, said the new initiative enables prospective voters to visit the INEC website, download the updated CVR application, and complete the registration process, including biometric capture, without initially visiting an INEC office. He explained that the digital platform was introduced to improve accessibility and make voter registration more convenient for Nigerians.
According to Salami, the online CVR platform was officially deployed on the 15th of this month as part of INEC’s efforts to leverage technology in electoral services. He said the innovation is designed to eliminate barriers experienced under the previous system, where applicants were required to visit INEC offices for biometric capturing, adding that the commission remains committed to expanding access to voter registration through technology.
Voter Registration: We have now introduced what is called the new continuous voter registration online… Now you don’t need to come to our office for capturing; go to our website, download the new CVR CAP, and do everything, including biometric capturing, on your smartphone.
