The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed as fake a letter circulating on social media and purportedly signed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain. The family urged Nigerians to disregard the document, insisting that it neither originated from the former governor nor reflected his views.

In a statement issued on Thursday by his son, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, on behalf of the family, the document titled “Urgent Message” and dated July 14, 2026, was described as a fabrication designed to mislead the public. The statement stressed that the letter, which was purportedly addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, was not authored or signed by El-Rufai.

According to the family, both the content and handwriting contained in the document bear no resemblance to those of the former governor. It described the letter as another attempt by political opponents to create confusion and division within the party and among El-Rufai’s supporters. The family accused those behind the document of engaging in what it called “politics by fakery,” urging the public to reject such actions and avoid spreading false information.

The statement further condemned the circulation of the document, describing it as a desperate attempt to tarnish El-Rufai’s image and interfere with political developments in Kaduna State. It maintained that the sponsors of the fake letter should be ashamed of using misinformation to pursue political objectives, adding that Nigerians should rely only on official communications from the former governor or his authorised representatives.

The purported letter, which gained traction on social media, questioned the nomination of Isah Ashiru as the ADC governorship candidate in Kaduna State. It alleged that Ashiru failed to complete the party’s online membership registration before the April 30, 2026 deadline, which it claimed was a constitutional requirement for eligibility. The document also called on the party’s national and state leadership to review the nomination process and address the concerns raised.

However, El-Rufai’s family categorically rejected the authenticity of the letter, insisting that the former governor had no connection with it. The family appealed to members of the public, party supporters and stakeholders to ignore the document entirely and refrain from sharing it, stressing that it was fabricated to mislead the public and stir unnecessary controversy within the ADC.
