The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, through its Project WISE, has carried out a joint enforcement and monitoring operation to dislodge illegal traders occupying walkways and unauthorised spaces along the Ketu, Ile-Ile and Mile 12 axis of Lagos.
The operation was conducted in collaboration with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, KAI, the Nigeria Police Force and military personnel. The exercise was aimed at restoring access for pedestrians and road users while maintaining a cleaner, safer and more orderly environment.
As part of the follow-up operation, the team also monitored areas previously cleared along the Ketu to Ikorodu corridor, including Erunkan, Owode Elede, Owode Onirin, Ogolonto and Agric. The exercise was conducted to ensure compliance with government directives and prevent illegal traders from returning to cleared locations.
During the monitoring exercise, some illegal traders were reportedly dislodged, while offenders who violated the directives were arrested. LAWMA said continued monitoring would be carried out across the affected areas to protect the gains recorded through the enforcement and clean-up operations.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Lagos State Government’s efforts to maintain a clean, safe and organised city, warning that spaces cleared during enforcement operations must remain free from illegal trading and further encroachment.
