Oriwu Senior Model College, Ikorodu, under Education District II, Lagos State, has received a new mobile clinic from the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) to improve access to prompt and quality healthcare services for students and staff.
The intervention forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to support basic education and promote a safe and conducive learning environment. UBEC, which coordinates the implementation of the Universal Basic Education programme across Nigeria, provides support to states and local governments to improve access to quality basic education.
The mobile clinic was formally presented to the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, Mr. Omotayo Layemo Sanni, by the Principal of Oriwu Senior Model College, Mrs. Iyabo Elushakin, alongside the Junior School Principal, Mr. M. A. Raheem, at the district headquarters in Maryland.
Speaking during the presentation, Sanni commended the Federal Government and UBEC for the intervention, describing the mobile clinic as a significant addition to healthcare support within the school. He said the facility would provide timely medical assistance to students and staff and contribute to their overall health and well-being.
The Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary added that the mobile clinic could also serve as a healthcare resource for other schools and members of the wider Education District II community when necessary. He assured that the district would ensure the proper utilisation and maintenance of the facility.
The intervention is expected to complement the efforts of the Lagos State Government to strengthen student welfare and provide a safer, healthier and more supportive learning environment across schools in Education District II.
