Randle General Hospital, Surulere, Lagos, has joined pharmacists worldwide to commemorate the 2026 World Pharmacists Day with a call for greater collaboration and professional development in healthcare delivery.
The event, organised by the hospital’s Pharmacy Department, was held at the Conference Room of Femi Gbajabiamila General Hospital, Iyun, Surulere, with the theme, “Empowering Pharmacists for a Healthier Future.”
In her opening remarks, the Medical Director/CEO of the hospital, Dr Lateefat Omolara Agbaje, represented by the Director, Clinical Services and Training, Dr Abosede Adabale, acknowledged the critical role pharmacists play in ensuring that patients receive appropriate medications and quality care.
Agbaje said improved healthcare delivery and positive patient outcomes could not be achieved without the contributions of pharmacists, who work continuously to provide quality pharmaceutical services. She added that the annual celebration, held on September 25, was an opportunity for the hospital to recognise and appreciate its pharmacists.
The Director of Pharmacy, Randle General Hospital, Pharm. (Dr.) Assa Gabriel, said the theme was designed to highlight the growing importance of pharmacists in healthcare delivery. He also emphasised the evolving responsibilities of pharmacists and their contribution to effective hospital services.
The Guest Lecturer, Pharm. (Dr.) Solape Adenuga, in a presentation titled “Unlocking the Potential of Pharmacists to Shape the Future of Healthcare in Lagos State,” urged pharmacists to continually improve their skills and apply their medical expertise to meet the changing needs of patients.
Adenuga stressed the importance of medicine availability and patient safety, while encouraging pharmacists to embrace electronic medical records, work closely with other healthcare professionals and build trust within the healthcare system.
She also urged practitioners to keep abreast of global standards and continuously develop themselves, noting the numerous opportunities and potentials within the pharmacy profession.
Presenting the rapporteur’s report and key take-home messages, Pharm. Adewunmi Ogunbowale encouraged pharmacists at the hospital to adopt practices that would improve the visibility and reputation of the Pharmacy Department and contribute positively to the hospital’s standing among Lagos residents.
Members of the hospital management and other staff attended the event, which ended with group photographs and interaction among participants.
