The Nigeria Police Force has arrested and released former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, on bail over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
The police arrested Okorocha on Monday night at the REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja before releasing him on bail after about an hour of interrogation.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aniete Iniedu, confirmed the arrest and subsequent release to Channels Television, adding that the former governor had been asked to return to the Force Headquarters on Tuesday for further questioning as investigations continued.
The arrest reportedly followed Okorocha’s failure to honour previous police invitations in connection with the investigation.
He was initially invited to the Force Headquarters on September 2, but the appointment was rescheduled to September 8 at the request of his lawyers. He reportedly failed to attend on the rescheduled date.
The police have continued their investigation into the allegations, while Okorocha is expected to return for further interrogation.
