Kenneth Okonkwo, a former Labour Party chieftain and spokesperson for the party’s 2023 presidential campaign, has predicted an easy victory for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections if the opposition fails to present a strong northern candidate.
Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television, Okonkwo said the opposition coalition must be strategic and united to stand any real chance of unseating the current administration.
“My strategy this time around is that I am going to support a northerner in 2027,” he said. “It must be a northerner that the whole north is willing to support. If the whole north is willing to support an Atiku, why not? If they are willing to support a Tambuwal, why not?”
He warned that if the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is currently championing a new opposition front, decides to field a southern presidential candidate, it would all but guarantee Tinubu’s re-election.
