The African Action Congress (AAC) has criticised recent allegations of imposition and corruption raised by members of some political parties during their primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s chairman, Samson Olarenwaju, made this statement during the party’s primaries held in Lagos, stressing that democracy should reflect the will of the people rather than be controlled by political godfathers.
He maintained that the AAC remains committed to transparency, fairness, and equal opportunities for all members throughout its electoral process.
Meanwhile, the party also warned its 20 electoral representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections against defecting to other political parties after securing victory, stating that such actions would attract stiff consequences.
State Chairman Olarenwaju insisted that any party member intending to defect must first relinquish their elected position.
The warning may be linked to an earlier remark by another party member, Sanyaolu Juwon, who criticised a candidate contesting for Surulere II Federal House of Representatives, Ibironke Taiwo, for defecting to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2021 during a turbulent period, only to later return to the AAC.
Subsequently, candidates signed a legal document guaranteeing their commitment to remain in the party if elected, or face litigation if they violate the agreement.
The AAC screened 20 electoral candidates, led by Soluyi Oluwadamilola Adesoka as the party’s gubernatorial flag bearer, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
