The David Mark-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has written to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), urging the timely delivery of the Supreme Court judgment in the ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
The move comes after the Supreme Court recently reserved judgment in an appeal filed by former Senate President David Mark over the ADC leadership tussle.
In the appeal, Mark is challenging earlier rulings in the case, arguing that the Court of Appeal exceeded its jurisdiction by intervening in what he described as the internal affairs of a political party.
The dispute stems from a ruling delivered by the Court of Appeal on March 12, which upheld a September 4, 2025 judgment of the Federal High Court.
The suit at the Federal High Court was initiated by Nafiu Bala, a factional national chairman, who is contesting the takeover of the party by the Mark-led faction.
The leadership crisis continues to deepen internal divisions within the ADC as competing factions await the Supreme Court’s final decision.
Meanwhile, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has weighed in on the development, expressing concern over the broader implications for Nigeria’s democracy and the 2027 general elections.
In a post on X, Atiku warned that Nigeria’s democratic system was facing what he described as an “existential threat,” adding that the integrity of the upcoming elections could be in jeopardy.
He, however, expressed confidence in the judiciary, stating that he does not believe the courts would align with any political interests capable of undermining democratic foundations.
