Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, the national leader of pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation Afenifere, has died at the age of 100.
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, announced the death in a statement he personally issued on Tuesday, describing the late elder statesman as a symbol of wisdom, integrity and selfless service.
Aiyedatiwa expressed sorrow over the loss, noting that Fasoranti devoted his century-long life to the development of Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.
The governor said the late Afenifere leader would be remembered for his principled positions on justice and good governance, as well as his counsel and guidance to successive generations.
“Pa Fasoranti was a patriarch, a beacon of wisdom, integrity and selfless service whose century-long life was marked by uncommon commitment to the development of our dear State, Yorubaland and Nigeria at large,” the statement read.
He added that the elder statesman had left an enduring legacy of honour and service that would continue to inspire generations.
On behalf of the Ondo State Government and its people, Aiyedatiwa extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and residents of the state.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased, describing his passing as a significant loss to the state and the Yoruba people.
