President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday administered the oath of office to four newly elected senators following their victories in the recent by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The newly inaugurated lawmakers are Olaka Nwogu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District; Envulu Anza of the All Progressives Congress (APC), representing Nasarawa North; Ikeje Asogwu of the APC, representing Enugu North; and Dayo Faduyile of the APC, representing Ondo South.

The swearing-in ceremony took place during plenary at the National Assembly, marking the formal commencement of the lawmakers’ legislative duties in the Senate.

Their inauguration followed the by-elections held last Saturday to fill vacancies that arose in the four senatorial districts.

Vacancies Triggered By-Elections

The Rivers South-East Senatorial seat became vacant following the death of former senator Barinada Mpigi, while the Nasarawa North seat was declared vacant after the passing of former senator Godiya Akwashiki.

Following the conduct of the by-elections by INEC, the newly elected senators secured victories in their respective districts and have now been formally admitted into the Red Chamber.

The addition of the four lawmakers restores representation for the affected senatorial districts and strengthens legislative participation for their constituents in the National Assembly.
