Former Rivers State Governor and presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the party’s presidential primary election, describing the results announced from across the country as fabricated.
Amaechi, one of the three aspirants seeking the ADC presidential ticket alongside Atiku Abubakar and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, made his position known in a statement shared on his verified X account on Tuesday.
The former Minister of Transportation claimed that the primary election, which took place across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory on Monday, was affected by widespread voter disenfranchisement.
According to him, the process fell short of the standards of fairness and transparency expected of the party’s internal democratic exercise.
Amaechi stated that he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the primary if the process met the principles of credibility and openness.
He argued that the announced results did not reflect the values the party had promised Nigerians, stressing that the ADC had positioned itself as a platform seeking to offer an alternative to what he described as impunity and poor governance under the current administration.
“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” Amaechi said, maintaining that he would not endorse an electoral process he believes lacked transparency.
