The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Sharafadeen Alli, has assured workers in the state of the prompt payment of salaries, allowances, and all other entitlements if elected in the 2027 election.
This assurance comes on the heels of ongoing industrial actions by medical and dental officers in the state’s employ, as well as lecturers at Ladoke Akintola University (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. While the medical workers’ strike commenced on Monday, members of the LAUTECH branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) began an indefinite strike on Thursday.
The strikes have left patients in public hospitals helpless, with essential healthcare services currently unavailable to the people of the state.
In a statement issued in Ibadan, the state capital, the Director of Media and Publicity of the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation, Bisi Oladele, detailed the candidate’s promises.
Alli condemned Governor Seyi Makinde for ignoring the doctors’ and lecturers’ strikes while continuing with his presidential campaign. He accused the governor of insensitivity to the plight of the masses and the thousands of students attending the institution.
Describing the industrial actions as deeply troubling, the APC candidate noted that the strikes are particularly concerning against the backdrop of persistent complaints about inadequate medical personnel, poor equipment, and deteriorating facilities in government-owned hospitals across the state.
