Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has called up Coventry City forward Taiwo Awoniyi as a replacement for top striker Victor Osimhen, who is racing against time to be fit for Nigeria’s upcoming AFCON qualifiers.
The Super Eagles begin their campaign to qualify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with a home fixture against Madagascar in Uyo on 23rd September, before travelling to face Guinea-Bissau four days later.
Osimhen will miss both matches after Galatasaray reached an agreement with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to leave him out of the squad.

Awoniyi’s selection was officially confirmed by the team’s social media handles.
