Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated Muslims in Lagos and across Nigeria on the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir, urging citizens to embrace the values of sacrifice, peace, and national unity.
In a statement issued on Tuesday through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor described the Islamic festival as a period for reflection on faith, patience, and communal harmony.
Sanwo-Olu said Eid-el-Kabir carries deep spiritual significance and reflects the devotion, obedience, and perseverance demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.
“This symbolic Islamic festival is a reminder to us that there will always be great rewards when we have abiding faith and patience in trying periods, with persistence in prayers, and tenacity in our belief,”
He urged Nigerians to apply the lessons of sacrifice beyond religious observance, stressing the need for citizens to contribute to societal progress and national development.
“It also reminds us of the sacrifice we are expected to make not only for the purpose of spiritual fulfilment but also for the progress of mankind and development of our society.
The governor also appealed to residents and Nigerians generally to avoid actions capable of threatening the unity and stability of the country.
“I want to appeal to all Lagos residents and Nigerians to draw lessons from Prophet Ibrahim’s examples by eschewing tendencies that could sever the unity and stability in the country,”
He further encouraged support for the Federal Government’s development agenda under President Bola Tinubu, noting that nation-building remains a collective responsibility requiring the cooperation of all citizens.
