The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has firmly dismissed mounting demands for his removal from office.
These calls have emerged from critics who link his ongoing political feud with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara to broader instability and have urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene by revoking Wike’s appointment.
Folowing the deepening hostility between Wike and his gubernatorial successor, a coalition of critics within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has publicly pressed President Tinubu to sack the FCT Minister. The groups, identified as the APC Leaders Forum (ALF) and the Tinubu/Shettima Solidarity Movement (TSSM), articulated their demand in an open letter, citing allegations of insubordination, engagement in anti-party activities, and conduct perceived as a threat to national cohesion as justifications for his immediate removal.
Responding to these pressures during a “thank you” visit to the Obio/Akpor Local Government Council, Wike addressed the calls with defiance. He challenged the premise of the demands, asserting that the prerogative to dismiss him rests solely with President Tinubu, who appointed him. “If my appointor believes that I cannot offer anything again, he has the right. It’s not that you should tell him,” Wike stated, effectively shrugging off the criticism and reinforcing his position that any decision concerning his tenure lies exclusively with the President.
