The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) has confirmed that a fire outbreak occurred at the electronics section of the Justrite Superstore located on Akowonjo Road in the Egbeda-Akowonjo area of Lagos, with no casualties recorded.
The Controller General of the LSFRS, Margaret Adeseye, said the agency received a distress call at about 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, prompting the immediate deployment of firefighters from the Abesan and Agege Fire Stations. The emergency teams arrived at the scene by 8:28 a.m. and quickly launched coordinated firefighting operations to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other sections of the commercial building.
Adeseye explained that firefighters successfully extinguished the fire while protecting nearby properties and ensuring the safety of people in the area. She added that recovery and mop-up operations were ongoing after the incident, noting that preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have originated from the building’s alternative power source, specifically its solar inverter system. However, a comprehensive investigation is still underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
The incident occurred just hours after another fire emergency in Lagos involving a gas-laden tanker along Abaranje Road in the Ikotun area of the state. The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) attributed the tanker fire to a collision with a road bump, highlighting a series of fire incidents that emergency responders have had to tackle within a short period.
