The Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest advisory body of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, has endorsed and adopted the state’s Deputy Governor, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, as its consensus candidate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The endorsement positions Hamzat as the preferred successor within the party’s internal structure as political activities begin to gather momentum in the state.
Meanwhile, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor of Lagos State, Gboyega Akosile has dismissed reports alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was asked to resign on health grounds, describing the claim as false and misleading.
In a statement, Akosile said the report allegedly published by Sahara Reporters was entirely untrue and should be disregarded.
He clarified that Sanwo-Olu remains in good health and continues to carry out his official duties.
The statement also noted that earlier on the same day, the governor received Deputy Governor Hamzat on a courtesy visit, during which he reportedly informed him of his intention to contest for the governorship seat in 2027.
The meeting, according to the government, held in a cordial atmosphere consistent with established protocol.
The government accused Sahara Reporters of spreading misinformation, adding that while it usually ignores such claims, it issued the clarification to prevent public misunderstanding.
