Guinness World Record has declared The Book of Humanity authored by Dr Bolaji Hammed, as the book mostly signed by an individual in an hour.
The official launch of the book, held in Ibadan on Wednesday, drew dignitaries, traditional rulers and members of the public, who called for greater emphasis on humanity beyond religious, ethnic and cultural differences.
Speaking at the event, the author said his inspiration for the book came from observing how many global challenges are connected to humanity. He maintained that many of the problems confronting the world could be reduced if people embraced humanity and selflessness.
He urged everyone to look beyond selfish interests, describing The Book of Humanity as a message he believes will remain relevant to generations.
Hammed, who is also the Akeweje of Ibadan, questioned the continued segregation among people on the basis of nationality, religion, culture and ethnicity. He asked why restrictions such as visas should exist if humanity is truly regarded as one.
The author’s mother, the Iyaloja-General of Oyo State, Alhaja Saratu Aduke, expressed joy at the achievement and urged parents to create time for their children. She said she never imagined her son would grow to make such an impact on society.
Other speakers at the event, including His Royal Highness Dr Victor Oluwasegun Akanbi, Onikueke of Kueke, Ogbomoso, as well as Emmanuel Moses of Arugbo Boys and the book’s co-writer, spoke on the importance of selflessness, listening to others and taking courageous steps that can positively affect society.
The book is premised on the belief that humanity remains a foundation shared by all religions and should therefore receive greater attention.
