Former Military President, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, extending his condolences to the bereaved family, the Sultanate Council, and the Sokoto State Government.
In a condolence message released on Saturday, Babangida described the late Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji as an accomplished public servant, diplomat, elder statesman and patriot whose lifelong commitment to national development left an enduring legacy.
According to the former military leader, the deceased was widely admired for his exemplary leadership, integrity and selfless service to Nigeria, qualities that became evident from an early stage of his public career.
He noted that Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji approached every national assignment with dedication and diligence, setting a standard of excellence that inspired many in public service.
Babangida also described the death as a personal loss, recalling the close relationship they shared over the years.
“To me, this is a personal loss as I have lost a friend, an associate, a confidant and a brother. All I can hold on to are the fond memories of the relationship we had, built on trust, mutual respect and a shared vision for Nigeria,” he said.
He prayed for Allah to grant the family of the deceased, the people of Sokoto State and Nigerians the strength to bear the loss.
The former military president also prayed for the repose of the late statesman’s soul, asking Allah to grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
