Veteran journalist and former press secretary to past Oyo State governors, Lekan Alabi, has died at the age of 76.
Alabi, who held the traditional title of Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, passed away on Saturday morning in Lagos.
His death was confirmed in a statement issued by Adeola Oloko, the media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
According to the statement, the veteran journalist, who served as press secretary to several former governors of Oyo State, died after a distinguished career in journalism, public communication and public service.
“The veteran journalist and multiple press secretary to former Oyo State governors, Lekan Alabi, is dead,” the statement said.
It added that the Abese Olubadan passed away in Lagos on Saturday morning at the age of 76.
The statement further disclosed that Alabi would be laid to rest on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.
Throughout his career, Alabi was widely respected for his contributions to journalism, government communications and the preservation of the history and cultural heritage of Ibadanland.
