The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has extended Eid-el-Kabir greetings to Muslims across the country while directing increased security deployments nationwide to ensure a peaceful and safe celebration.

The directive was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid.

According to the statement, the police chief reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the protection of lives and property throughout the festive period.

“The Inspector-General joins all Nigerians in celebrating this auspicious occasion and prays for peace, unity and prosperity for our great nation,” the statement said.

As part of efforts to strengthen security during the celebrations, the IGP directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to intensify security measures and proactive policing operations.

The statement explained that operational strategies would include the deployment of tactical units, intelligence officers and conventional police personnel to key locations expected to attract large gatherings during the festive season.

Such locations include Eid prayer grounds, highways, motor parks, recreational centres, critical national infrastructure and other public areas anticipated to experience heavy movement of people.

The police also said additional measures would involve intensified visibility policing, coordinated patrols, surveillance operations and intelligence-driven stop-and-search activities aimed at preventing criminal acts and responding swiftly to any potential security threats.
