The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has defended the performance of its Contactless Passport Application platform, insisting that the technical issues that initially affected the system have been resolved.
The clarification comes amid continued complaints from Nigerians in the United Kingdom over delays in passport processing and poor communication at the Nigerian High Commission in London.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Service’s spokesman, Akinsola Akinlabi, said the introduction of the NIS Mobile application had significantly improved passport administration for Nigerians in the diaspora by eliminating the long-standing challenge of securing appointments for biometric enrolment.
According to Akinlabi, the mobile application, which was introduced in the United Kingdom in 2024, has undergone several upgrades based on users’ feedback to improve its performance and enhance the overall application process.
He maintained that the Contactless Passport Application platform is functioning effectively and remains a key component of the Service’s efforts to modernise passport processing and improve service delivery for Nigerians living abroad.
Despite the NIS assurances, some Nigerians in the UK continue to express frustration over delays in receiving their passports and what they describe as inadequate communication from officials at the Nigerian High Commission in London.
