The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State has commenced the public display of the voter register from the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise for claims and objections.
The disclosure was made by the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ayobami Salami, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the commission’s Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Taiwo Gbadegesin.
According to Salami, the voter register is currently on display across all 20 local government areas in Lagos, in line with Section 19 of the Electoral Act 2022.
He explained that the verification exercise, which began on Wednesday, April 29, will run through May 5, operating daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., excluding weekends.
“This is a critical window for every eligible citizen to verify their details on the register and file a claim if their name is omitted or wrongly captured,” Salami stated.
He added that the exercise also allows registered voters to raise objections against ineligible individuals, including deceased persons, underage registrants, non-Nigerians, and cases of multiple registrations.
“The credibility of the 2027 elections will be determined largely by the integrity of the voter register. We cannot afford a bloated register filled with deceased names and irregular entries,” he warned.
Salami called on residents and political stakeholders to actively participate by visiting designated centres and taking necessary actions as provided by law.
Meanwhile, INEC has announced January 16, 2027, as the date for the presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
