The Kaduna State Government has dismissed as fake a viral letter claiming that Governor Uba Sani approved and released N2.3 trillion for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off.

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kaduna on Saturday, describing the purported letter as fraudulent and misleading.

Maiyaki said the letter, dated October 18, 2026, and allegedly addressed to Senator Abdulazeez Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, contained several inconsistencies that cast doubt on its authenticity.

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani

He noted that Kaduna State’s 2026 budget stood at N985.92 billion, making the alleged N2.3 trillion expenditure more than twice the state’s annual budget.

According to him, there were no authentic appropriation, approval or expenditure records to support the claim.

Maiyaki also identified irregularities in the document, including the misspelling of the governor’s surname as “Uba Sai” and the apparent unauthorised reproduction of his signature.

“The Kaduna State Government categorically disowns this document. Gov. Uba Sani neither authored nor authorised the purported letter, and no N2.3tn was budgeted, approved or released,” he said.

The commissioner described the allegation as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and damage the governor’s reputation for fiscal discipline and responsible governance.

He said the Sani administration had prioritised transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources since assuming office on May 29, 2023, with investments in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social protection.

Maiyaki expressed concern over what he described as coordinated misinformation aimed at discrediting the governor ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He warned that fabricating official correspondence and circulating false financial claims could constitute criminal offences.

“Political competition must be conducted within the bounds of truth, decency and the law,” he said, urging the public and media organisations to verify documents before circulating allegations concerning government expenditure.

The commissioner disclosed that efforts were underway to establish the origin of the purported letter and called on security and investigative agencies to investigate the matter and take appropriate legal action against anyone found culpable.
