The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has quoted a passage from former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s autobiography in response to a recent statement by the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar.

Atiku had described the administration of President Bola Tinubu as “thieves” while criticising its handling of the country’s economy.

2027 Elections: We Are Competing With Thieves, Says Atiku

In a post on X, Keyamo reproduced a passage from Obasanjo’s book, My Watch, in which the former president reflected on Atiku, who served as his vice president between 1999 and 2007.

Keyamo introduced the quotation as “the printed verdict of a boss on his subordinate.”

The passage attributed to Obasanjo reads:

“What I did not know, which came glaringly later, was……his propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time, a propensity for poor judgement, his belief and reliance on marabouts, his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy his way out of all issues and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety, truth, and national interest for self and selfish interest.”

Keyamo’s post comes amid renewed political exchanges between the Tinubu administration and Atiku, who has emerged as one of the prominent opposition voices ahead of the next presidential election.

The minister appeared to use the former president’s account to challenge Atiku’s characterisation of the current administration and its officials.

The exchange adds to the growing political rhetoric between the opposition and the Tinubu administration over governance, the economy and the conduct of public officials.
