The Lagos State Government has announced a 35-day rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026, urging motorists to use alternative routes to minimise traffic congestion during the project.
The rehabilitation will cover the stretch from Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre to Samuel Manuwa Street/BJ. The Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the development in a traffic advisory issued on Thursday, October 15.
According to the advisory, a contraflow arrangement will be introduced on the Lagos-bound side of the road, from Samuel Manuwa Street towards Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre, while rehabilitation work is carried out on the opposite lane.
The government also outlined alternative routes for motorists travelling from Bonny Camp, Falomo, Eko Hotel and adjoining areas to reduce delays and ensure smoother movement throughout the construction period.
Motorists travelling from Bonny Camp or Falomo towards Civic Centre and Lekki have been advised to use Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, connect to Adeola Hopewell Street, proceed through Akinbo Savage Street and link Bishop Aboyade Cole Street.
They can then access the expressway through School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield.
For motorists travelling from Falomo towards Akin Adesola Street, the advisory directs them through IMB to the Coastal Road entrance via Adetokunbo Ademola Street, towards Eko Hotel Roundabout. They are to proceed through Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street towards Black Diamond School Corner.
Motorists departing from Bonny Camp can also use Ahmadu Bello Way to reach Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance before connecting to Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and the Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Eko Hotel Roundabout axis towards Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street, en route to Black Diamond School Corner.
The advisory further directs motorists travelling from Eko Hotel through Adetokunbo Ademola Street towards Civic Centre to divert through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner, near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield.
Road users exiting through the 1004 gate have been advised to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street towards School Corner and Sandfield.
Meanwhile, motorists travelling from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi are to use Sanusi Fafunwa Street to connect to Akin Adesola Street and continue towards the ramp bridge.
Osiyemi said officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would be deployed to manage traffic, coordinate vehicle movement and minimise inconvenience during the rehabilitation.
He urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead, obey traffic officials and cooperate with the temporary traffic arrangements to ease movement around the affected corridors.
The government appealed for public cooperation throughout the 35-day project, noting that compliance with the diversion routes would help reduce congestion and facilitate the smooth execution of the rehabilitation work.
