The Lagos State Government has said it will not be swayed by public opinion or negative commentary regarding its enforcement actions against environmental pollution and the illegal occupation of public spaces.
The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, made the remark while responding to criticism from some members of the public questioning the state’s continued arrest of beggars during enforcement operations.
The comments gained renewed attention following the arrest of a female beggar, who was reportedly found in possession of three military uniforms in her bag.

The incident has since sparked public debate over the government’s ongoing crackdown on street begging and related activities.
Wahab reiterated that the administration remains focused on its objectives and committed to sustaining its environmental sanitation and enforcement efforts across the state, despite public criticism.
Earlier today, in a separate enforcement operation, our team apprehended 22 beggars at Oshodi and Agege, comprising adults and a few teenagers. Additionally, 14 adults and 9 children were apprehended at CMS.
Clearance operations are also ongoing at Admiralty Way, Lekki, and Addo… pic.twitter.com/b1XW48PbeY
