Lagos State Model Senior College, Meiran, Education District I, has emerged the best-performing Lagos State public school and first runner-up overall at the Kids Innovation Africa Challenge organised by Destiny Trust International.
The hackathon, held recently at Landmark Event Centre, Lekki, Lagos, brought together more than 1,500 children, mentors, judges and partners from across the country to develop innovative solutions to challenges in education, environmental sustainability and sustainable food production.
Representing the school, Fanika Faith, Giwa Olaosebikan and Olaoye Rhoda developed “SmartFarm,” an integrated agricultural system that uses sensor technology to improve food production, protect farmers and promote more efficient agricultural practices. The project was further enhanced with seven robotic designs, demonstrating the students’ creativity, technical skills and problem-solving abilities.
Reacting to the achievement, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District I, Dr. Mrs. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, congratulated the school’s Principal, Mr. Ajayi Temitope, project coach, Mr. Moses Adewale, and the students for the feat. She commended the team for their innovation, teamwork and commitment to excellence, urging them to remain focused and pursue greater achievements.
The success also highlights the Lagos State Government’s emphasis on innovation, creativity and technology-driven learning as part of efforts to prepare students for the demands of the future.
