The Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, and the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, have led monitoring exercises across public schools to assess preparedness for the 2026/27 academic session.
Alli-Balogun visited Keke Senior High School, Agege, where he inspected the school environment, interacted with teachers and administrators, and assessed compliance with the government’s resumption directives.
The Commissioner stressed the importance of punctuality, discipline and effective teaching and learning, while urging students to remain focused, read ahead of their classes, ask questions and participate positively in school activities. He also charged school personnel to remain committed to delivering quality education and supporting learners.
As part of the exercise, Alli-Balogun conducted a roll call of teachers at the school to assess staff attendance, compliance and discipline.
Meanwhile, Dokunmu-Adegbite, accompanied by the Senior Special Assistant on Basic and Secondary Education, Eniola Opeyemi, monitored resumption activities at Technical and Vocational School, Agidingbi, and Babs Fafunwa Grammar School, Ojodu.
The Permanent Secretary reviewed staff and student attendance, assessed the readiness of the schools and engaged with school management and parents. She commended teachers and administrators for their commitment and urged them to uphold professionalism and discipline.
Dokunmu-Adegbite also advised students to avoid negative peer groups, remain committed to learning and develop skills that align with their interests. She urged parents to take an active role in their children’s education and overall development.
To ensure wider coverage, all directors from Grade Level 15 and above in the ministry were deployed to various schools across the state to monitor resumption, attendance and the commencement of academic activities.
The ministry said the exercise was part of the state government’s efforts to ensure a smooth start to the new academic term, strengthen standards and provide a safe and conducive environment for quality teaching and learning.
