The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lagos State Chapter, has condemned the Lagos State Government over what it described as the decade-long abandonment of residents and property owners in Phases 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the Anikantamo Jakande Estates on Lagos Island.
The Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary, Prince Dr. Christopher Odianarewo Dis. FCILMMD MNIIA, made the position known in a statement on Sunday, September 27, 2026, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of treating the lives, safety and properties of residents in the estates with disdain.
According to Odianarewo, what was once a model of urban housing has been reduced to a “sinking ship” by a government he accused of being more interested in “endless, empty propaganda” than basic governance.
He said the situation in the Anikantamo Jakande Estates had moved beyond mere neglect into what he described as “criminal endangerment,” alleging that residents now live in buildings severely compromised by structural decay as a result of the state government’s policies.
Odianarewo alleged that the Lagos State Government had deliberately blocked a vital drainage channel designed to empty floodwater from Phases 1 through 4 directly into the lagoon.
He said that under the guise of “fixing roads,” the administration had created an artificial flooding situation, turning residential homes into swampland, trapping families and undermining the structural integrity of buildings in the estate.
The PDP spokesman also accused the state government of making false promises to residents, particularly its reported commitment to relocate displaced and distressed residents to a new and safer site.
He alleged that, despite the promise, “not a single block, not a single bag of cement, and not a single shovel of sand” had been moved to the purported relocation site, which he described as a “ghost project.”
From infrastructure to housing, security and basic human empathy, Odianarewo said the Lagos State Government had failed residents in several areas.
He further accused the government of “taxing the poor while drowning them in floodwaters of their own making.”
The Lagos PDP expressed solidarity with residents of the Anikantamo Jakande Estates and called for the immediate and unconditional unblocking of the water channels leading to the lagoon to avert what it described as an imminent structural collapse of the estates.
The party also demanded a transparent, rapid and realistic action plan concerning the abandoned relocation sites, beyond what it described as “empty media stunts.”
It further called for accountability over what it described as a decade of administrative failure and psychological torture inflicted on property owners.
Odianarewo said Lagos residents deserve a government that “builds, protects, and preserves,” rather than one that systematically floods citizens out of their homes.
“The era of empty slogans is over. The people are watching, and the ballot box awaits,” he said.
