Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of a notorious “One Chance” robbery syndicate allegedly involved in attacking and robbing commuters along major routes in the state.
The police also recovered an operational tricycle believed to have been used by the suspects to dispossess unsuspecting passengers of their valuables, especially mobile phones, in different parts of Lagos.
According to the command, the suspects were arrested during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Iyana Ipaja area by police operatives.
The tricycle, which had three occupants, was intercepted for a search when officers discovered three Android phones in the possession of one of the passengers.
The phones were suspected to have been stolen from victims of robbery operations.
During the exercise, the tricycle rider reportedly escaped from the scene, leaving behind the remaining occupants.
One of the suspects, identified as Ademola Ibrahim, was immediately apprehended by the police.
Investigations later revealed that the suspect allegedly confessed to being a member of a “One Chance” robbery gang known for targeting commuters along Idimu, Iyana Ipaja, Egbeda, and Dopemu areas of the state.
Further police investigation led to the arrest of the fleeing tricycle rider, identified as 26-year-old Raheem Lawal.
The command also recovered the tricycle allegedly used for the criminal operations, bearing registration number SMK 309 QP.
Police disclosed that two victims who had previously reported separate “One Chance” robbery incidents along the affected routes later identified the suspects as members of the gang.
The victims also confirmed ownership of the stolen phones recovered from the suspects.
The Lagos State Police Command stated that investigations are ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the syndicate while efforts continue to bring all those involved to justice.
