The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting cultural tourism, arts and the creative economy as part of efforts to strengthen the state’s position as a leading destination for cultural and creative expression.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe, stated this while hosting representatives of Eko Arts and Culture, the International Dance Festival and Nigerian Children’s Cultural Heritage at his office in Alausa, Ikeja.
The Eko Arts and Culture delegation, led by its pioneer, Mrs Inem Couture, invited the ministry to the maiden edition of the “Eko Arts and Culture Experience,” scheduled for December 2026. The event will showcase Lagos’ heritage through fashion, music, theatre and awards, with a concert expected to attract about 1,000 guests and highlight Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo cultures.
Aregbe commended the initiative, saying the state was willing to support programmes that promote Lagos’ cultural identity and showcase its diverse heritage to a wider audience. He noted that such events could also contribute to the growth of the creative economy.
The International Dance Festival delegation, led by Artistic Director Sunday Ezegbe, also briefed the Special Adviser on its two-week festival scheduled for September 14 to 27, 2026. The festival is expected to attract participants from more than 40 countries and feature dance workshops, training sessions, music performances and other cultural activities.
The Nigerian Children’s Cultural Heritage delegation, led by Mrs Oluwakemi Fanimokun, visited to appreciate the state government’s support for the Surulere Children Art and Craft Workshop, which provided young participants with opportunities to develop their creative skills.
Aregbe said the ministry would continue to support initiatives that nurture young talents, promote cultural exchange and provide platforms for local creatives to gain wider visibility. He added that such programmes would help strengthen unity among Lagos’ diverse communities and advance the state’s cultural tourism ambitions.
