The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to attracting investment into the tourism and creative sectors through stronger engagement with diaspora communities and youth-focused organisations.
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe, stated this on Sunday, October 18, 2026, when he hosted the Elevate Her UK delegation at a dinner reception at Juicy Lagos, Victoria Island.
The delegation, led by the organisation’s founder, Ebony King, was in Nigeria through its Diaspora Girls Connect Initiative, which promotes cultural exchange, mentorship, leadership development and business opportunities for young women of Nigerian descent in the United Kingdom.
Aregbe commended the organisation for strengthening ties between Nigeria and its diaspora youth, describing the initiative as consistent with the state government’s agenda on youth empowerment, inclusive economic growth and diaspora engagement.
He also highlighted Lagos’ tourism and cultural attractions, including Oniru and Tarkwa Bay beaches, the Badagry Slave Museum, J.K. Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, Freedom Park, Nike Art Gallery, Lekki Conservation Centre and the National Museum.
The special adviser said Lagos offered opportunities for visitors and investors across tourism, arts, culture, technology and creative enterprise, urging members of the delegation to consider the state a destination for investment and business development.
He reaffirmed the state government’s support for initiatives focused on women and young people, noting that partnerships with diaspora organisations could help unlock opportunities and strengthen growth in the tourism and creative industries.
In recognition of his support for youth development and hospitality, Elevate Her UK presented Aregbe with an Award of Recognition, describing him as a champion of youth-led initiatives and an ambassador of Lagos hospitality.
King thanked the Lagos State Government for the reception and pledged the organisation’s continued commitment to identifying business opportunities, building partnerships and contributing to the growth of Lagos’ tourism and creative economy.
The event brought together government officials, industry stakeholders and members of the delegation, highlighting efforts to deepen diaspora relations and position Lagos as a leading destination for tourism, culture and creative investment.
