The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has introduced a toll-free consumer helpline to enable residents to report fake, expired and adulterated products, poor services, misleading advertisements and other consumer-related violations across the state.
The General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, said the toll-free line, 080 0005 2726, provides consumers with a direct and accessible channel to lodge complaints, seek guidance and receive timely intervention from the agency. Residents can also reach LASCOPA via lasgcopa@gmail.com, Facebook and Instagram at lascopa/lasgcopa, and X (formerly Twitter) at lasgcopa.
Solebo urged residents not to rely solely on social media to raise complaints, stressing that formal reports backed by verifiable evidence would enable the agency to investigate and take appropriate enforcement action. He advised consumers to provide receipts, invoices, photographs or videos, product labels, proof of payment and screenshots of transactions, advertisements or conversations with sellers when lodging complaints.
He said the helpline would cover complaints involving counterfeit and adulterated goods, expired or defective products, misleading advertisements, unfair business practices, poor services, online shopping disputes and other suspected violations of consumer rights.
Solebo also advised residents to verify product details, prices, sellers and terms and conditions before making purchases, particularly when shopping online. He urged consumers to check product labels for manufacturers’ information, manufacturing and expiry dates, batch numbers, ingredients and usage instructions.
“Timely, credible complaints help us detect violations and take enforcement action. Consumer protection is a shared responsibility—government, businesses and consumers,” Solebo said.
He called on Lagos residents to remain vigilant and actively participate in promoting a safer marketplace, urging them: “If you see it, question it. If you suspect it, report it. Tell it to LASCOPA.”
