The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has cleared two truck-related obstructions along Ikorodu Road and the National-Ashade corridor, restoring free flow of traffic and preventing possible secondary accidents.
The first incident occurred on September 20, 2026, when the LASEMA Cobra Team stationed at Onipanu responded to a distress alert at about 5:53 p.m. concerning a loaded mixer truck that had fallen onto the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor near Palmgrove, inward Obanikoro. Preliminary findings attributed the incident to reckless driving and overspeeding. No casualty was recorded, while the driver reportedly fled the scene.
LASEMA, working with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police Force, secured the area, managed traffic and evacuated the truck from the BRT corridor.
Later that day, at about 11:21 p.m., the Agency’s Eagle Response Team from Cappa responded to another truck incident at National, Ashade. A MACK truck loaded with two 20-foot containers had broken down while attempting a U-turn after a tyre burst caused the vehicle to tilt and block about 80 per cent of the roadway.
Responders immediately secured the area and diverted traffic while heavy-duty equipment was mobilised. Using a private crane, two forklifts and LASEMA’s lowbed, the containers were recovered, while the truck was towed to the LASTMA yard in Oshodi. The road was subsequently cleared and reopened to traffic.
Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the Cobra and Eagle Response Teams and collaborating agencies for their swift intervention, which he said helped prevent prolonged gridlock and possible secondary accidents.
Oke-Osanyintolu urged operators of articulated and heavy-duty vehicles to maintain their vehicles properly, obey speed limits and traffic regulations, and exercise caution on Lagos roads. He also advised residents to report emergencies through the 767 and 112 toll-free emergency lines for prompt response.
