The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening financial accountability, transparency and efficient management of public resources through continuous capacity building for Finance and Accounts Officers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Abayomi Oluyomi, stated this on Monday at the opening of a three-day Capacity Building Programme on Financial Reporting Using the National Chart of Accounts (NCOA) in Ikeja. He described accurate financial reporting as essential to sustaining public trust and accountability in governance.
Oluyomi said the NCOA provides a uniform framework for budgeting, accounting and reporting government transactions across all tiers of government. He added that its effective application would improve the comparability of financial information, reconciliation processes and preparation of financial statements in line with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS).
The Commissioner urged participants to master the relevant standards, maintain the integrity of financial data, embrace digital financial systems and ensure timely reporting. He reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to full compliance with applicable public-sector accounting standards, stressing that accurate and credible financial records remain vital to public confidence and good governance.
