The Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, has cautioned against a direct military assault on the hideouts of kidnappers responsible for recent attacks in parts of Oyo State, warning that such an operation could result in significant civilian casualties.
Speaking on the security situation, the monarch expressed concern over the brutality of the criminal group, citing the reported beheading of a teacher during captivity.
“The terrorists beheaded a teacher on live video. We have never witnessed anything like that in our community. Such heinous crimes were things we only heard about happening in other countries. This shows the calibre of people we are dealing with,” Oba Olaoye said.
He warned that any attempt to launch a full-scale military operation to rescue kidnapped victims could place the lives of innocent captives, including children and teachers, at greater risk.
“If the military simply goes after them in an effort to rescue the captives, more innocent lives could be lost.
Such an outcome would provoke widespread outrage across the country,” he stated.
The traditional ruler further revealed that local vigilantes who attempted to approach the kidnappers’ hideout were met

with deadly resistance, including the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
“When some of our vigilantes moved close to their location, the criminals detonated IEDs, injuring about 10 of our men.
Their actions have sent a clear message that extreme caution is required because the potential collateral damage could be very high,” he added.
Oba Olaoye called for a carefully coordinated strategy by security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of victims while minimizing the risk to innocent lives.
