NAFDAC Raises Alarm Over Alcohol’s Link to Banditry, Brain and Kidney Damage, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has linked banditry in Nigeria to the indiscriminate consumption of alcohol.
The Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Mojisola Adeyeye, stated this during an interview on Wednesday.
Adeyeye, a professor, explained that the substance was dangerous to organs in the human body, including the brain, kidneys and liver.
She said that the sale of alcohol in sachets and PET bottles was approved decades ago but became uncontrollable, prompting NAFDAC to ensure that alcohol sold in less than 200ml is banned.
She said that though the ban did not sit well with some people, Nigerians are concerned about the future of their children.
She said alcohol products in small containers, which were initially approved decades ago, had become difficult to control because of widespread misuse.
According to her, the agency moved to enforce restrictions after concerns over the impact of easy access to alcohol on public health and society.

Adeyeye maintained that Nigerians must consider the future consequences of unchecked alcohol abuse, stressing that the substance affects both individuals and communities.
The NAFDAC director-general also warned about the health dangers associated with excessive alcohol intake, particularly damage to the liver and kidneys.
