The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control (NCDC) has assured that preparedness and precaution measures are being taken to prevent the Ebola Virus from entering Nigeria, saying there is no need to panic.
Head Of Health Emergency Preparedness at the NCDC, Dr Biodun Ogunniyi, in a televised interview said Nigeria has a better health system to combat the virus, compared to the outbreak in 2014.
His remark follows outbreak of the new strain of Ebola Virus (BUNDIBUGYO) that hit the democratic republic of Congo with 513 cases reported and 131 deaths.
Ogunniyi said protocols are in place to prevent the spread of the virus in Nigeria. including a network of laboratories across the country to ensure prompt detection when it happens.
The NCDC official said Nigeria had assessed the risk, noting that while the risk is high considering the influx of flights into Nigeria, through Lagos and Abuja, the government is up to the task.
However he urged Nigerians to be vigilant and proactive in reporting individuals presenting with symptoms saying early detection can curb the spread of the virus.
