The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says it will soon inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for the 2027 general elections, with presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, given the authority to nominate several key officials of the council.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, disclosed this on Tuesday, saying consultations were ongoing among Obi, Kwankwaso, National Leader Henry Seriake Dickson and other party leaders to finalise an inclusive campaign structure. The positions to be nominated by the presidential ticket include Director-General, Deputy Director-General (North), campaign spokesman and deputy spokesman, Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director.
According to the NDC, a comprehensive organogram for the campaign council was prepared in August and presented to Obi and Kwankwaso for their input, while nominations had also been received from stakeholders across the country. The party said the PCC would be announced and inaugurated after the candidates submit their recommendations. The inauguration, initially scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed due to Obi’s travel schedule.
The development follows a recent dispute over a separate 59-member campaign council unveiled by the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, a support group for the two candidates. The NDC had dissociated itself from the structure, while the movement maintained that it did not require the party’s approval to establish its own organisational structure.
Meanwhile, the NDC has directed its state and local government area chairmen to meet with candidates and stakeholders to compile and harmonise lists of party agents ahead of the 2027 elections. The lists will cover National Assembly elections as well as governorship and State Assembly elections and will be reviewed by the party leadership before training begins.
The party also appealed to its candidates and supporters to avoid internal disputes and remain focused on their respective electoral contests. It said candidates were contesting under the NDC platform and urged them to work towards the party’s electoral objectives.
