A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has released what he described as evidence to support his allegations of bribery involving the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi.
Okonkwo, a former actor and politician, had earlier alleged that Obi and other party leaders in the South-East collected ₦10 million and ₦20 million from House of Representatives and senatorial aspirants respectively during the party’s primary process.
According to him, one of the aspirants, Obunike Ohaegbu, provided details of the alleged payments along with a receipt, which formed part of the basis of his claims.
So the National Secretary of NDC allegedly told members to pay ₦10 million because Peter Obi needed it for his presidential election? 😂
Kenneth Okonkwo may have been too gentle with the description.
This one is not “structure.”
This is the architecture of criminality.

The allegations have since sparked a legal dispute, with Obi’s legal team demanding a retraction and compensation.
In a letter dated June 9, 2026, Obi’s lawyers, led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Alex Ejesieme, demanded ₦5 billion in damages and a public apology from Okonkwo over the allegations. The legal team also warned of further legal action and indicated that additional damages could be sought if the demands were not met.
However, in a series of posts on his X account on Wednesday, Okonkwo shared screenshots of alleged WhatsApp conversations between himself and Ohaegbu, which he claimed support his assertions regarding Obi’s involvement in the party’s nomination process.

Defending his decision to make the allegations public, Okonkwo maintained that he was acting in the interest of accountability and transparency.
“Let me make it clear that as a citizen and a lawyer, I have a duty to disclose every crime against the state that comes within my knowledge. The South-East people have suffered enough,” he wrote.
He further stated that no individual should be allowed to take citizens for granted or engage in actions he described as fraudulent without being challenged.
Okonkwo also dismissed the demand letter from Obi’s lawyers, stating that he had not yet reviewed the document but would respond formally after doing so.
The former spokesperson warned that any legal proceedings could result in the disclosure of information he obtained while serving in that capacity.
Okonkwo and Obi were previously political allies before parting ways following Obi’s defection from the ADC to the NDC.
As of the time of filing this report, the allegations remain unproven, and the matter is expected to be resolved through the courts.
Kenneth Okonkwo said that Peter Obi would travel to meet people in the diaspora, collect shishi from them, pocket the money, and then return to Nigeria claiming, “We no dey give shishi.” That allegation was made towards the end of this video. pic.twitter.com/1pX5gOxiVI
