Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued five students of Gateway Polytechnic who were abducted by armed men in the Sapade area of Ogun State.
The incident occurred late on April 27, 2026, when the Nigeria Police Force Ipara Division received a distress call reporting a suspected kidnapping.
Officers dispatched to the scene discovered an abandoned ash-coloured Toyota vehicle riddled with bullet holes and stained with blood. Personal belongings, including mobile phones, were also recovered from the vehicle.
Further checks revealed an identity card belonging to a student of Gateway Polytechnic, confirming that the victims were students.
Following directives from the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, multiple tactical units—including SWAT, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and the Quick Response Squad—were deployed to comb nearby forests and track the abductors.
The intensified operation led to the successful rescue of all five victims on April 28, 2026.
The students were freed from captivity, debriefed, and taken for medical treatment after enduring harsh conditions.
During the operation, the kidnappers engaged police operatives in a gun battle but were overpowered and forced to flee, reportedly with gunshot injuries.
No casualties were recorded among the security personnel.
The police have commended the swift coordination and professionalism of the operatives involved, noting that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Authorities also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
