President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to combating insecurity, declaring that Nigeria will never surrender to terrorists, bandits or other criminal groups threatening the nation’s peace and stability.
The assurance was conveyed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, during a national inter-denominational church service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
Speaking on behalf of the president, Akume said the Federal Government remained resolute in its determination to strengthen security operations across the country while addressing the economic challenges confronting millions of Nigerians.
According to him, the administration recognises the hardships faced by citizens, including rising living costs, insecurity, kidnappings and the displacement of communities in various parts of the country.
“Government is sensitive to all these pains, shares in these pains and has heard your cries,” Akume said.
He assured Nigerians that President Tinubu’s government is intensifying efforts to ease economic pressures and ensure that the benefits of democratic governance reach more citizens.
The SGF noted that beyond economic reforms, the administration is placing significant emphasis on improving security and restoring confidence in affected communities.
He said the safe return of Nigerians held captive by criminal elements remains a top priority, adding that security agencies are receiving greater support and resources to confront emerging threats nationwide.
“The Government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation,” Akume declared.
The statement comes at a time when concerns over insecurity remain high across several regions of the country, with incidents of kidnapping, banditry and violent attacks continuing to challenge security agencies despite ongoing military and law enforcement operations.
He paid tribute to the heroes of the June 12 struggle, many of whom endured persecution and hardship in the quest for democratic governance.
According to him, Democracy Day serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect democratic institutions and strengthen national unity.
