Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has commended St. Gregory’s College for its contributions to education, character development and leadership, describing the institution as an important part of the history of education in Lagos State and Nigeria.
Sanwo-Olu gave the commendation on Saturday, September 26, 2026, during the Grand Reception and Lifetime Achievement Awards organised by the St. Gregory’s Old Boys’ Association at the Naval Dockyard, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Representing the governor at the event, the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, said the institution had demonstrated the impact of quality education, with its alumni making contributions across the public service, business, academia and various professions.
The governor also commended the establishment of the Endowment, Perpetual and Infrastructure Development Fund, describing it as an initiative aimed at preserving and strengthening the legacy of the college for future generations.
According to him, the fund would support scholarships, modern infrastructure, innovation, capacity development and educational excellence, while helping to sustain the institution’s heritage.
At the ceremony, Agoro received a Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his achievements, public service and contributions to society. The award also recognised his representation of the values and traditions associated with St. Gregory’s College.
Other honourees included the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Olayemi Cardoso; Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu; the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal; the Onilado of Ilado, Oba Mobadenle Obalade Oyekan; the Adegboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Abdulsemiu Orimadegun Kasali; Chief Anthony Asuquo Ani, CON; and Dr Abimbola Ogunkelu.
